چکیده
A promising strategy to break through the selectivity-conversion limit of direct methane conversion achieve high yields is protection methanol via esterification a more stable methyl ester. We present an aerobic methane-to-methyl-ester approach that utilizes highly dispersed, cobalt-containing solid catalyst, along with significantly favorable reaction conditions compared existing homogeneously-catalyzed approaches (e.g. diluted acid, O2 oxidant, moderate temperature and pressure). The trifluoroacetic acid medium (<25 wt %) inert fluorous co-solvent can be recovered after separation trifluoroacetate liquid–liquid extraction at ambient conditions. Silica-supported cobalt catalysts are active in this system, competitive turnovers comparison known transition metal-based catalytic systems.

Utilizing Terminal Oxidants to Achieve P450-Catalyzed Oxidation of Methane
Terminal oxidant-supported P450 reactions alleviate the need for substrate binding to initiate catalysis by chemically generating “compound I.” This allows investigation of the innate substrate range of the enzyme active site. Using iodosylbenzene as the oxidant, CYP153A6, a medium-chain terminal alkane hydroxylase, exhibits methanol formation in the presence of methane demonstrating that P450-...

The reaction parameters for the Laccase/TEMPO system in the aerobic oxidation of aromatic alcohols were investigated. The optimized concentrations of laccase and alcohol were found to be 10 U/ml and 160 mM respectively. Under these conditions the use of 9 mol % TEMPO led to good conversions within 4 h. The optimum temperature for the reaction was found to be above room temperature (around 30°C).
